Modern mast design integrates as many functions as possible inside the mast geometry. The outer shell is now used for a multitude of functions, including radar reflection. The mast, being the highest part of the ship, is the best candidate for weight savings.

Composite integrated masts

An additional benefit of a composite mast is its thermal insulation properties, securing a controlled climate inside for the radar systems to perform at their best!

Note: Sometimes our work takes place behind closed doors. Therefore the images used are similar to our projects, but do not belong to our client.

Why are composites used here?

Lightweight
Composite is widely known for being light, strong and stiff. Depending on the structure and its requirements, weight savings of over 50% can be achieved when compared to traditional materials. In this case, this reduces the pitching moment of the yacht substantially.

High strength
In general, fibre reinforced plastics outperform metals (e.g. steel and aluminium) in strength.
