Introduction
This project aims to revolutionize our design workflow by developing a standardized, parametric library of Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) pultruded structures, including staircases, walkways, and platforms, within Solidworks.
By shifting from static models to intelligent, parametric assemblies, we aim to drastically reduce the time required for global structural design and material estimation. This library will serve as the foundation for future initiatives in automated production drawings and digital twin integration.
Project Scope & Key Responsibilities
- Conceptual Parametric Modeling
- Detailed Design & Data Integration
- Automated Production CAD Package (If time permits)
- Develop parametric 3D models for the following structures: Walkways, Staircases, and Platforms.
- Implement dynamic constraints to allow seamless adjustments to length, width, height, amount of supports, and handrail configurations.
- Ensure all designs are structurally sound, adhering to EN ISO 14122 (Permanent means of access to machinery) or equivalent civil engineering or industry standards.
- Refine structural geometry to include local details such as connection brackets, specialized FRP profiles, and hardware (bolts, washers, nuts).
- Configure automated Bills of Materials (BOM) that update in real-time based on parametric changes to ensure 100% accuracy in procurement.
- Develop automated 2D drawing templates that generate General Arrangements (GA), sectional views, and detailed fabrication drawings (including hole patterns) directly from the 3D master model.
- Explore the use of Solidworks macros, API integrations, or AI-assisted tools to further streamline the documentation pipeline.
Candidate Profile
Technical Requirements:
- Solidworks Proficiency: experience with weldments, complex assemblies, and production drawings is essential. Familiarity with design automation (configurations, equations etc.) is a significant advantage.
- Engineering Mindset: Strong affinity for structural engineering, load paths, and modular construction systems.
- Knowledge of pultrusion or composite materials.
- A "systems thinking" approach to CAD, prioritizing model stability and reusability.
