Solico contributed to an innovative project within the NXTGEN Hightech programme in collaboration with CEAD Group. The project focused on the structural engineering of large scale 3D printed components.
Through extensive material testing, the key mechanical properties of the printed material were determined. These results were translated into advanced finite element models, enabling accurate prediction of structural behaviour, including strength and stiffness.
The developed models make it possible to assess 3D printed structures, such as boats, against common industry standards. This provides a reliable engineering basis for the design and verification of large scale 3D printed components.
The project demonstrates how advanced analysis and material characterisation can unlock the structural potential of high performance 3D printed structures.
