Over the past two years, Solico has collaborated with Plasticon on the Tata Steel DeNOx installation at the Pelletfabriek in IJmuiden. Our team was responsible for the structural engineering and design of the scrubber, the chimney and the stack components.
In addition to the engineering work, Solico also conducted material testing to ensure long-term durability and performance under the highly corrosive and high-temperature conditions within the installation.
The scrubber and chimney, both constructed from FRP, play a crucial role in filtering and cleaning air emissions from the Pellet plant. This material was chosen specifically for its resistance to chemical exposure and thermal stress.
This week, we received some amazing images from the last chimney installation, which had to be completed in two parts. The scrubber is 12.5 meters in diameter and 42.5 meters in length, while the chimney extends 64.5 meters. The base of the structure starts at 8 meters, reaching a top height of 115 meters. The scrubber weighs 50 tons, and the entire project used an impressive 250 tons of composite material, along with an additional 80 tons for stack components such as connections and ribs.
It’s always rewarding to see our projects come to life, especially when they contribute to more sustainable and cleaner operations.
