Structural Design of a Slender 36 m GRP Bridge

Solico was responsible for the complete structural design of the GRP bridge, including the detailed design and the interaction with the concrete foundations and the tuned mass damper (TMD).

With a free span of 36 m and a structural height of only 1.0 m, the bridge has an exceptionally slender configuration. This required careful assessment of the dynamic behaviour of the structure. Solico carried out extensive analyses to determine the natural frequencies and resulting accelerations.

These studies showed that a tuned mass damper was required to control vibrations and ensure user comfort. A frequency (harmonic response) analysis was performed to evaluate the global acceleration response and support the final structural design.
