In order to make the small RHIB 2000 go even faster and withstand even higher loads, the hulls were redesigned by Solico. After construction of the new hulls the weight savings became crystal clear!

Customer: Royal Dutch Navy

Why are composites used here?

Carbon fiber is widely known for being light, strong and stiff. Depending on the structure and its requirements, weight savings of over 50% can be achieved when compared to traditional materials. In this case, this reduces the pitching moment of the yacht substantially.

High strength
In general, fibre reinforced plastics outperform metals (e.g. steel and aluminium) in strength.
